RESCUE 2012 litter clearance in Caversham – a big thank you

A big “thank you” is due to twenty two Caversham GLOBE supporters who invested 71 hours over 4 days in March clearing litter and fly-tipping during the 2012 annual RESCUE (Rivers and Environmental Spaces Clean Up Event). You may have seen some of them out and about in Central Caversham, Balmore Walk, Bugs Bottom, Christchurch Meadow, Hill’s Meadow and View Island. Their collection included 79 sacks of litter, 4 shopping trolleys, various scrap metal plastic & timber, electric cable, pallets and textiles. Sadly this demonstrates that some members of our community see nothing wrong with fly-tipping of hazardous or general waste or discarding drinks cans, bottles, snack and food wrappers in our green spaces.              CLICK  THIS  PICTURE TO SEE DETAIL

Trees for Caversham

Caversham Globe is offering free trees for planting on privately-owned land in and around Caversham. Most of the trees are small saplings, such as rowans (mountain ash) field maple and hazel, which would also be suitable for hedging. We also have a few larger specimens of oak, ash, walnut and silver birch available. Globe is offering the trees to anywhere in the RG4 postcode area, with priority to areas that would benefit from more trees. For example front gardens, or in front of an office or business premises, church or school grounds. Please contact info@www.cavershamglobe.org.uk or phone Dave Kenny 0798 663 0378 (afternoons). Planting will take place as soon as possible.

Caversham Globe litter cleanups on Monday 8th and 22nd November 2010

On Monday 8th November Caversham GLOBE will be carrying out a thorough litter clean up of a small area in central Caversham – specifically: School Lane area, the alley by the telephone exchange behind the shops through to Promenade Road, the Car Park, and some areas close by that we may discover as needing to benefit from our civic pride and practical action.

If any local people have some time to help with this please come along. We will have sacks and some litter picking tools but you should have your own gloves. If anyone knows of other areas that would benefit from a clean, do please let us know as we are planning another clean up on 22 November, that will include the foot path from Henley Road shops behind Chiltern Road and anywhere else required (within reason!).

Contact number on the day, in the even of very heavy rain, 07768958407

UPDATE: 12 sacks of litter were collected.

Please see our DIARY page for details of the cleanup on Monday 22nd November.

New trees

As part of its planting programme this winter, Caversham Globe will be planting two new autumn flowering cherry trees by the footpath in Picton Way, Caversham. The trees have been funded by Globe and are being planted with the support of the local residents and Reading Borough Council. We will also be replacing two of the saplings along Peppard Road and Buckingham Drive, these were originally planted as part of our contribution to the millennium Trees For Our Future project. Caversham Globe has a number of small trees in our allotment which are available for planting around Caversham and Emmer Green and suggestions are always welcome for new planting locations to help improve the local environment.
